Onboarding: Tailoring User Preferences
The onboarding process allows users to set their lifestyle preferences. They can set their diets, such as vegetarian, keto, or vegan, and indicate any food allergies or other restrictions. Users can also specify their household size so that they can invite collaborators, ensuring flexibility and personalization in their meal planning.
Overview
The Sunday ritual was familiar Grocery shopping: meticulously planning meals for the week, carefully crafting a grocery list to avoid waste. Yet, by Wednesday, reality intruded. Work deadlines loomed, motivation waned, and carefully planned meals faded into memory. Often, a forgotten ingredient or an impulse buy at the store meant dinner devolved into frozen pizza or takeout – left feeling sluggish and guilty. As a student, the stakes are even higher. Skipped meals led to battling fatigue, all while stretching a limited budget thin.
Project Goals
  1. Addressing decision fatigue caused by an overwhelming number of recipe options.
  2. Reducing food wastage through efficient meal planning and utilization of ingredients.
  3. Simplifying meal preparation amidst time constraints and coordinating cooking responsibilities within households.
Curated Discovery
Discover personalized recipes that are curated just for you based on your previous meal saves. You can easily sort, filter, and search for recipes using keywords like ingredients, difficulty level, cook time, and items you have on hand. The curated content section also recommends popular content creators that you might like. In this way, the app promotes you to easily discover new recipes that fit your needs and preferences.
Meal Schedules
The Schedule tab shows you all your meals for the current day and week. You can also see a monthly calendar view of all your meals. For each meal, you can see who is scheduled to cook it, when it is scheduled, and when you can start cooking. The meal planning feature lets you schedule dates and times for specific meals like breakfast, lunch, and dinner. It also sends reminders to prepare ingredients, start cooking, or buy groceries. The meal schedule works with your existing calendar apps to give you a complete picture of your daily schedules and meal plans.
Scheduling made easy
A healthy competitive spirit is fostered through our ranking system, which places users in a community leaderboard based on their learning achievements and daily task completions. This feature encourages engagement and continuous improvement among learners.
Cooking made easy
The community blog serves as a platform for users to share their learning insights and experiences. It’s a space for inspiration, advice, and communal knowledge sharing, helping users to connect and learn from each other’s paths.
Our chat feature enables robust interaction within the community, allowing users to engage in peer learning, share problems, form study groups, and support each other, improving the collective learning experience.
Design Process

I worked in three sprints to develop a working hypothesis for MealForge, a mobile app that helps people organize their lives collaboratively. I then refined the concept through user testing. Check out my detailed case study to learn more about the process!

Discovery
Recipes can be uploaded by anyone, including food bloggers, chefs, and enthusiasts. Each recipe includes information about the creator, its rating difficulty level, calorie count, preparation and baking times, and serving size. The serving size can be changed making it easier for users to add items to their grocery list. The recipe has detailed ingredients, directions, nutrition content along with notes to save for future use. Recipes can be rated and reviewed by users, which provides valuable feedback to the community. You can save the recipe, share it with others, and even schedule it as a meal.
Grocery List and Pantry Management
Automatically generate shopping lists based on the scheduled recipes and the ingredients you have in your pantry. We partner with grocery delivery services for seamless grocery ordering directly from the app and having them delivered to your door. The app will send you reminders to place orders in advance. You can manually or automatically update the inventory in your pantry to track what you have and what you need to buy.
